I could regret this… but I’ve decided to start sharing (some) of my personal art journal.
I’ve done so for years on Facebook and Flickr. And that was safe. Because I could control who saw what. But on this site…it’s kinda out there for everyone. And yeah, there could be some people out there that I’d rather not see my vulnerable side. BUT…
But I think it’s important to share what an Art Journal is and is not.
I think it’s important to show that everything in an Art Journal isn’t pretty (exactly why I preach about not removing pages from Art Journals – no matter how FUBARed the result looks).
I think it’s important to show that some days the colors are missing, and others it’s a wild splash of rainbow.
I think it’s important to allow spelling errors, bad handwriting, and words that fall off the page because I don’t plan what I write – and I often run out of room.
I think it’s important to be real. To see what a day-to-day Art Journal looks like…not just the pretty stuff that results during a 3-hour class.
I suppose I’ll try to remember what I used to make my page and list that. And maybe tell a bit about what was going on when I did the piece (ekkkk, that might be TOOOOO much vulnerability for me). So with some excitement and trepidation, here I go.
I admit, this first one I’m sharing is a bit of a cheat. Why? Because I put this one out to the world with a video of me making it on YouTube here http://youtu.be/5IRnFvC9waE.
The products I used were: an OLD O.L.D. JudiKins stamp, Distress Ink, 9B graphite crayon, oil pastels, and some TLC. My inspiration came from feeling overwhelmed without enough time, and then I remember the paradox of having all the time there is. So how could I not have enough? Thus the silly looking girl with a clock belly appeared.

well done you! totally relate to this, I had just the same misgivings when I began to share my sketchbook pages, but the ‘imperfections’ are the character and charm in art, like in people. And anyways, like in all things, once you’ve dipped your toes you just gotta dive in! Happy swimming!
Thanks so much!
