Hello Wobbly Soul.

We all are.
Wobbly.
Every new thing starts with wobbles.

Remember learning to walk?  Okay you don't remember, but you can be assured that you were pretty wobbly when you first started. In fact you had several FAILED attempts. And that's okay, because you walk pretty awesomely now. In fact I bet you've taken walking to a whole new level!

rainbow_butterfly_sm“The cure for boredom is curiosity. There is no cure for curiosity.” ~ Dorothy Parker

Curiosity is a curious thing. Is it not? It’s “wonder” turned up. Louder. Stronger. Hotter. Curiosity takes courage. Fearlessness. Or even a bit of naivety, like the curiosity of Alice in Wonderland. Curiosity is a thirst to know more about the odd and peculiar. I think curiosity is a very VERY beautiful thing. Like children, they are curious, because they are fearless (and oh so wonderfully naive).

Your Creative Art Journal Prompt: Using the above quote on your page or simply as inspiration; list your fears. Yup, we’re going there. And this what is curious about them. If you were not so afraid, what could you discover about the thing you fear.

Garden of Fears

Once I did a fear page by painting it red and black (using a scraping technique to get a smooth finish). Then I draw and listed fears in white pen. I made a whole garden of scary things growing in my mind. And even though it was a “scary” page – it turned out to be one of my favorites. Perhaps as you list fears and discover ways to become curious about them, it could remove a bit of the fear-factor too.

From there, you know best how to put the final touches on your page. Write it. Express it. Color it.
Creatively Art Journal it.

rainbow_butterfly_sm“Take good care of yourself EVERY day, even if you’re not in need. WHY? Because there is a day you’ll need to know that routine well.” ~ Sherry Meneley

I almost tossed out the scribbled post-it note that said this. It must have been a fleeting thought when my journal wasn’t handy. And the more I’m sitting here thinking about this truth the more I thought…”goodness I must use this for the prompt this week!”

I journal because I brush my teeth. I brush my teeth because I don’t want things to become a problem and wind up needing professional care (and even when I do need professional care, at least I have done the best I could and mostly likely averted a worst situation). Journaling is no different. I do it daily to keep my soul healthy. To get out what’s inside. Sure some days I don’t need to do it. But it’s a routine that has become as important as brushing my teeth.

Your Creative Art Journal Prompt: Using the above quote on your page or simply as inspiration; list the routine things you do. Daily, or weekly, or monthly. We all have routines. Now go back and circle or put hearts around the things that are “soul care.” The things that you do “just for you.” And if you are lacking some things that are just about you (aka: bubble bath, quiet walk, journaling, pleasure reading, focused breathing, etc…) then discover some you’d like to add into your day. And make a new routine…a routine as important as brushing your teeth.

From there, you know best how to put the final touches on your page. Write it. Express it. Color it. Creatively Art Journal it.

Ignoring your fragileness is the quickest way to break.

I could end the post there.
That's certainly is enough to think about.
But perhaps I should expand...just a bit.

It's the New Year. Self-help book sales are through the roof. The DIY-get-better, coaching blogs, free diet / motivation / encouragement apps and such are getting high-volume hits.

Even Oprah is shouting out how this is going to be your best life ever!

rainbow_butterfly_sm“Why do we close our eyes when we pray? When we cry? When we dream? Or when we kiss? Because we know that the most beautiful things in life are not seen, but felt by the heart.” ~ Unknown

Your Creative Art Journal Prompt: Using the above quote on your page or simply as inspiration; list all the things you do with your eyes closed. From the very simple (pulling up the bed-blanket over you) to the automatic (sneezing, sleeping), and then to the very complex (like writing your name, typing on a keyboard, petting an animal, and much more, even those things rated beyond PG-13…). And if you want the extra challenge, list those things that you do with your eyes closed that involve the emotions of your heart. Like giving a heart-felt-hug. It’s amazing what we do with our eyes closed.

From there, you know best how to put the final touches on your page. Write it. Express it. Color it. Creatively Art Journal it.

Weekly Art Journal Prompt

“If you’re not prepared to be wrong, you’ll never come up with anything original. …we are educating people out of their creative capacities.” ~ Sir Ken Robinson

Ugh, this is so true and sad. And exactly why I’m passionate about teaching creativity to adults and teens (and of course children who tend to embrace it, they haven’t been told they are wrong yet). So, if you’re looking for a creativity class where you CAN’T get it wrong – check the schedule and join a class to spark your creativity.

Oh and it you’ve got 20-minutes, this is well worth the watch!

Weekly Art Journal Prompt

“Distance kept them apart, but on a clear night they could look at the same star and remain connected.” ~ Sherry Meneley

Your Creative Art Journal Prompt: Make a night sky of open stars on a page. Write the names of loved ones you miss inside the stars. The like milky constellations OR like the tail of a comet from a star–write your favorite memory about that person. Sometimes this type of prompt can be very sentimental and bitter-sweet. As you finish the page, acknowledge to yourself that by just doing this journal page–you have kept the moment and memory forever alive. Regardless of the distance you have with any of the “stars” you will always be connected in heart, soul, and memory.

Homeschool Idea: Teach about wax resist, or “Batik” art. Make the stars with white crayon-and color them in. Then watercolor the page and notice how the stars remain white. Now lay a couple of pieces of paper-towel over the page and with a warm iron, iron over the page. The crayon wax should transfer to the paper towel–leaving a white/clean space for writing names.

From there, you know best how to put the final touches on your page. Write it. Express it. Color it. Creatively Art Journal it.
